from the Director
The
specific goal of the Transportation Department is to provide
a safe, secure ride for the students of the Bradford Area
School District to/from school and school functions.
The drivers are required to attend a 20-hour training course
before they can take a driving test. Once the test
is passed, their skills are honed in a ride-along program
with seasoned drivers. Additionally, all drivers attend
in-service/safety training on a monthly basis and a 10-hour
refresher course every four years.
Our
drivers are usually the First District personnel the students
and parents see each morning and the last District personnel
they see each afternoon. The bus can hold three to
four classrooms full of students with only one adult in
control That adult has their back to the students
and must be aware of ever-changing traffic conditions.
The "Big Yellow School Bus" may not seem like
it, but it is an extension of the student's learning environment.
Students interact with peers while still following specific
rules and regulations. Infractions of the rules merit
specific consequences. Friendships are made, not only
with other students, but adults as well.
